Cosmic Brujo
Cosmic Brujo is one of the last warriors of the extreme-energy-spirit-music -also known as free jazz, always performing at highest intensity and spiritual awareness. Deeply rooted in the old-school free jazz idiom, he has made it his way of life to maintain this tradition-in-danger-of-extinction with an almost religious approach. Also having witnessed the birth and growth of the grind core/death metal genre and being drawn to it's brutal sonic statement only has made his musical vision more lethal and uncompromising. He was born in Switzerland in 1975. From an early age he was exposed to jazz, mainly bop and free, which had a profound impact on him.
At the age of 14 he stopped eating meat and began playing drums. After a short time drumming he knew that he would get serious about music and studied a few years at the jazz school in Lucerne, Switzerland before becoming a student of Swiss master-percussionist Pierre Favre.
In the year 2001 he moved to Mexico where he has lived/worked ever since.
In 2003 he formed his working band Zero Point together with saxophonist German Bringas and Julio Clavijo on guitar. With this band he has played numerous shows at different venues/festivals all over Mexico as well as recorded for Bringas' Jazzorca Records, his own Dimensional Recordings and Sweden's Ayler Records.
He has performed with such outstanding musicians as Marco Eneidi, Elliott Levin, Peeter Uuskyla, William Parker, Claude Lawrence, Bruno Angeloni, Dennis, Stefan and Aaron Gonzalez and many more. He is still working with Zero Point, D/zazter Ensemble, Onslaught and Antimateria and plays sax-drums duos with Ernesto Martinez, German Bringas and Remi Álvarez as well as having an ongoing musical relationship with Elliott Levin and Marco Eneidi.
Over the years he has played hundreds of shows, from underground hard-core venues, freak holes, festivals to the fancy jazz clubs, as well as having opened gigs for such distinctive acts as Ruins/Japanese New Music Festival, Sweden’s Exploding Customer and Grindcore legends Agathocles.
